Non Surgical Procedures - Thermage

The procedure may take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour depending on the size of the area you are having treated. Additional time may be required for skin preparation with Elamax cream prior to the procedure. In most patients, results appear gradually in 2-6 months as the collagen tightens and improvements continue for at least six months. A few patients show tightening immediately following the procedure. Studies show that thermal collagen changes can last several years depending on the rate of aging.

Is there any downtime ?
Most of the patients do not need any downtime whatsoever and may resume their regular activities in public immediately. About 50% of patients demonstrate various degrees of swelling which may take several days to resolve on average. It is difficult to predict who will develop swelling and this depends on the constitution of each person. Hence we perform the procedure on Thursdays or Fridays.

What does the Thermage procedure feel like ?
With each touch of the Thermage treatment tip as the collagen in the deeper layer of your skin is tightened, you will experience a brief intense heating sensation (similar to the sensation of laser hair removal). To protect your skin and make the treatment more comfortable, a cooling spray is automatically delivered before, during and after each application of the treatment tip. Additionally, as part of the pretreatment, an anaesthetic cream (Elamax) is usually applied to further enhance your comfort.

What is collagen ?
Collagen is a building block that supports the structure of the skin. Over time, collagen becomes depleted or damaged by the sun or other environmental factors. The results are visible signs of aging, such as loose skin and wrinkles.

Is it safe ?
The Thermage procedure is very safe. This advanced treatment has been studied carefully in hundreds of patients with minimal reports of transient adverse effects and very pleasing positive results in most patients.

How many treatments will I need ?
A single treatment has produced good results in most patients. Depending on certain skin characteristics, you may need to have a second treatment and this will be determined during your initial consultation with Dr. Petropoulos.
