Lights, Camera, Action: How a Photofacial Can Get You Picture Ready
- Posted on: Nov 30 2017
It’s that time of year when the temperatures are dropping even lower, Christmas trees are going up, families are getting together, and everyone is enjoying the holiday season. And although this season is about magic and love, it’s also about sending out the perfect holiday card for all of your friends and family to see. However, if your skin is looking a little less than picture ready, you may not be ready to pose and say, “Cheese!” Luckily, Dr. Anna Petropoulos offers patients a variety of treatments, including photofacials to help you get ready for your big photo session.
What is a photofacial?
A photofacial is also called other names like an IPL. By using intense pulse light, a photofacial targets the top few layers of the skin. This encourages skin cell turnover— leaving you with a smoother, clearer looking complexion.
Dr. Anna Petropoulos recommends that patients get photofacials for a variety of different reasons including:
- Redness caused by facial veins and capillaries
- Freckles, age spots, sun spots, or hyperpigmentation
- Large pores
- An uneven skin tone or skin texture.
One of the many unique benefits of photofacials is that they are non-invasive and non-surgical. This means that you won’t have to worry about any complex recovery time or to take time off of work or away from family. During your appointment, the doctor will apply a cool gel to the skin. Then, a handheld device will run over the skin and administer small pulses of light. Depending on your skin type and condition, most patients are recommended to get 3-5 treatments spaced about four weeks apart. However, after just one treatment, patients notice visible results which means that you will be ready for your photos sooner rather than later.
