When Should I Consider a Facelift?
- Posted on: Dec 15 2019
Getting plastic surgery is a very personal decision. When it comes to achieving a more youthful appearance with a surgical facelift, it is best that patients take the time to speak to a professional about their needs. A consultation visit allows patients the opportunity to connect face-to-face with a medical professional who can evaluate an individual and determine if they are a good candidate.
When should I consider a facelift?
There is no “right age” for a patient to have a facelift. There are many factors that can contribute to the need or desire for a facelift. This includes their habits and life experiences. Some patients may have had more sun exposure or have had weight loss and gain periods that impact the signs of aging on the skin. Others may genetically show the development of fine lines and wrinkles more than others. This can impact the need for surgical intervention more than a numerical age.
What is the best time to consider facelift surgery?
To achieve optimal results, our team may encourage patients to consider surgical intervention in their 40’s. This is because most patients will still have sufficient skin laxity for better healing and overall appearance. Men and women often consider facelifts during this time, or well into their early 60’s.
What if I am not a good candidate for a facelift?
Facelifts are most appropriate for patients who experience moderate to severe skin laxity and the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. Patients in their 30’s may instead want to consider less invasive alternatives such as dermal fillers. Dermal fillers are special cosmetic injectables that are used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face by adding volume with a medical gel injection. The results are not permanent, and injections need to be done regularly to maintain the results. However, dermal fillers are best for patients who want to address the earlier signs of aging before needing surgical treatments.
