Brow Lift
You are happy, active, and full of life, so why does it seem harder to look that way? Time or even genetics can cause your brows to sag, giving you a sad, tired, or angry expression. Board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Anna Petropoulos is a leader and innovator in facial rejuvenation techniques. She offers the endoscopic brow lift procedure to her Boston, MA patients for a refreshed and more youthful appearance. Her goal is to enhance the individuality and authentic beauty of each patient.
What is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift is a surgical procedure that lifts the skin and muscles in the upper half of the face to reduce signs of aging. Also known as a forehead lift, this procedure aims to minimize deep creases across the brow and the nose, as well as remove frown lines from between the eyebrows. A brow lift also lifts the eyebrows, allowing the eyes to appear more open. This presents a more alert, youthful appearance.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Brow Lift?
Men and women who are unhappy with the signs of aging in their brow may want to consider a forehead lift as a solution. Ideal candidates for brow lift surgery include patients that:
- Do not smoke
- Have realistic expectations
- Are physically healthy
- Experience wrinkles and sagging in the brow region
Signs of aging in the forehead can make us look too serious or too angry. Drooping eyelids make us look tired. If you want to restore vibrance and youth to your appearance, a brow lift might be the procedure for you. Patients who are looking to rejuvenate the lower half of their face, however, do not make for good candidates for a brow lift. Instead, we recommend a facelift for patients who show signs of aging in the mid to lower face.

Forehead Lift Procedure
Dr. Petropoulos prefers to perform endoscopic or “minimal incision” brow lifts instead of using the traditional coronal technique. She performs this outpatient procedure using a tiny video camera inserted through half-inch incisions that are hidden behind the hairline. Using this special camera, Dr. Petropoulos is able to perform the procedure without having to make the large incisions required with a traditional brow lift.
After the procedure, you will have a special brow lift dressing. There may be some temporary swelling and numbness of the scalp. Sutures will be removed after about 1 week at which point you may return to work.
Brow Lift Surgery Recovery
Brow lift surgery is typically performed as an outpatient procedure and most patients return home the day of their surgery. Patients report experiencing pronounced swelling within the first two days of surgery. This swelling should mostly subside within two weeks of the procedure. Dr. Petropoulos advises that her patients avoid heavy lifting for a few days to prevent bleeding.
Forehead Surgery Results
Dr. Petropoulos makes it a priority to give her patients a natural look. After your brow lift, the tired appearance you previously had will be gone and you will look happy, refreshed, and rejuvenated, as if you just came back from vacation.
Brow Lift Risks
Prior to undergoing forehead lift surgery, you will be briefed on the possible risks and side effects of the procedure. In addition to risks associated with general surgery, brow lift surgery risks include:
- Asymmetrical face
- Raised hairline
- Damaged facial nerves
- Eye dryness
- Hair loss at incision site
The chance of surgical complications is minimized by choosing a board-certified surgeon, such as Anna Petropoulos, MD, FRCS.
What Are Non-Surgical Alternatives To A Brow Lift?
If forehead lines and creases are your main concern, it’s possible to delay cosmetic surgery with BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments. At your consultation, Dr. Petropoulos will help you determine which treatment, whether surgical or non-surgical, will best help you achieve your aesthetic goals, based on your skin type, bone structure, and overall health.
