What is a Photofacial?

Does it seem like another brown spot or red dot appears on your face every time you stop to look in the mirror? Clear, evenly colored skin helps you look young and feel great about yourself, which naturally invigorates your busy life. Board-Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Anna Petropoulos, is an innovator in non-surgical facial rejuvenation and has helped restore youthful freshness to her New England patients’ skin with photofacial treatments. What Does A Photofacial Do?

A photofacial (or fotofacial) can help Boston area residents correct signs of aging and sun damage on the face, neck, chest, and hands in many ways. This includes:

  • Fading freckles, sun spots, age spots, and other unevenly pigmented areas
  • Clearing redness such as rosacea caused by facial veins and capillaries
  • Improving skin tone and texture by stimulating collagen production
  • Minimizing pore size

Photofacials are just one of the many non-surgical treatments Dr. Petropoulos offers. She will make sure to give you enough time and information during your consultation to decide which one is best suited to your cosmetic goals. She is happy to review your facial cosmetic surgery options as well, if you are interested.

IPL Treatment

After a cool gel is smoothed over the skin, pulses of high energy light are emitted as the IPL handpiece is gently run over the targeted areas. Patients describe the feeling as a mild sting and can elect to use topical anesthetic cream. We can treat a wide variety of skin types and conditions with precise control over the depth of treatment and coverage area.

Photofacial treatments are gentle and non-ablative, and therefore do not disrupt the surface of the skin. To you this means that you can immediately return to your life after treatment without any downtime. A series of 3 to 5 treatments, performed at 4 week intervals, are usually necessary to give you impressive, lasting improvements.
