ProFractional™ Therapy by Sciton
What is ProFractional™ Therapy?
Do you suffer from brown spots, fine wrinkles, or large pores? You don’t have to accept the visual effects of aging and damage. The ProFractional laser is an exciting development in erbium laser technology. A series of brief ProFractional laser treatments can dramatically improve the appearance of the face, neck, and chest, turning back the clock and undoing environmental damage. There is minimal to no downtime, because, as its name implies, the laser treatment is fractionated, treating microscopic channels of skin with intact skin in between them. Take a proactive approach to skin rejuvenation with a ProFractional laser treatment at our Boston practice.
What can ProFractional™ Laser therapy Treat?
The ProFractional system, manufactured by Sciton®, is a powerful laser that is designed to address some of the most common complaints related to age and sun damage, including:
- Lines and wrinkles
- Scars from illness, injury, surgery, or acne
- Uneven pigmentation such as freckles or age spots
- Rough texture
- Sagging or laxity
How does Laser Skin Rejuvenation work?
ProFractional’s power comes from a type of laser called Erbium: YAG. This laser uses infrared light to evenly penetrate the skin. We can set the depth of penetration depending on the existing condition of your skin, as well as the improvements you’d like to see and the downtime you have available for healing, ranging from 1 day to 5 days.
The small, microscopic channels created by the laser stimulate the skin’s natural healing response, encouraging the production of extra collagen. This is crucial because our bodies’ natural production of collagen slows down as we age, and this reduction is partially responsible for sagging, wrinkled skin. The increased collagen production after a ProFractional laser skin resurfacing treatment at our Boston-area practice can help slow down or even undo many of the natural effects of aging.
The refreshed supply of collagen smoothes and reinvigorates the skin, creating supple, youthful-looking tone. Although some patients require only 1 treatment for good results, Dr. Petropoulos often recommends a series of several treatments for a more dramatic, longer-lasting outcome.
ProFractional™ Laser treatment Process
Together with Dr. Petropoulos, you will discuss the goals for your skin, and, according to the available downtime you have, the treatment depth and energy levels will be chosen. Prior to your procedure, you will fully know what to expect both during and after your treatment.
We administer ProFractional laser treatments in our office, and most sessions last about 40 minutes. Prior to treatment, your technician will apply a numbing cream for comfort. During the treatment, most patients report a gentle sensation of heat as the laser is administered, followed by a warm, “sunburnt” feeling.
Laser Skin Rejuvenation Results
Although several treatments may be recommended, most patients notice a difference in the tone and texture of their skin within a few days of their first treatment. As more collagen forms, your results become more enhanced. Scars, wrinkles, and lines fade as the overall tone and texture of the skin improves. A ProFractional laser treatment turns back time and slows down the aging process significantly. Excellent skin care habits, including proper sun protection, can enhance, protect, and prolong your results.
ProFractional™ Laser Recovery
Patients return home immediately following a ProFractional laser treatment and the healing time varies based on the depth at which the laser is administered, taking anywhere between 1 and 5 days for the skin to fully heal. In the most simple scenario, your skin will appear a little pink and even sunburned for a day or 2. You are able to apply makeup and return to work and other everyday activities. If you choose a deeper and stronger treatment, your skin may appear red and irritated for up to 5 days, yet you may apply makeup and return to work on day 2 or 3.
Laser Skin Treatment Cost
The cost of a ProFractional treatment regimen at The New England Facial & Cosmetic Surgery Center varies somewhat from patient to patient. Your skin type and desired results can affect your final cost, and Dr. Petropoulos takes care to ensure the fees are fair and on par with other high-quality, professional Boston-area facial plastic surgery practices.
