With the non-invasive ThermiVa radiofrequency energy treatment, it’s now possible to gently and comfortably restore feminine wellness with no downtime at all whilst/while increasing the moisture productivity of tissues, their elasticity, and resilience.
Many of our patients come to our Danvers practice on the North Shore from the Boston area and its surrounds. For a discreet, compassionate, and empowering discussion about feminine wellness and a potential rejuvenation treatment, the next step is requesting a consultation with Dr. Petropoulos, to find out if it is right for you, by clicking here or giving us a call at 978-739-9500.
What is ThermiVa?
ThermiVa is a form of energy therapy in which radio frequency waves are administered into the tissues at the vaginal opening as well as the vaginal canal. The absorption of this thermal energy into tissues provokes collagen proliferation and remodeling that tightens and shrinks the external labia and internal lining of the vagina.
Is ThermiVa Right for Me?
Women decide to pursue ThermiVa treatments for many reasons, and Dr. Petropoulos understands that some issues aren’t easy to talk about. Her warm compassion goes a long way to put her patients at ease during the consultation. Patients are also reassured by her vast experience using the Thermi® radiofrequency system. She has more than 17 years of experience with radiofrequency energy treatments and is considered a leader in the field in addition to having authored two textbook chapters on RF technology and applications.
Women of any age can benefit from ThermiVa treatment. If any of the following concerns sound familiar, you may benefit from a treatment:
- Stretched or “loose” labia or vaginal tissues
- Dryness and discomfort during intimate activities
- A lack of sensation
- A persistent discomfort when wearing tight-fitting clothes
- Stress incontinence or leakage when laughing, sneezing, jogging, playing tennis or jumping on a trampoline
Because ThermiVa treatments are non-invasive, comfortable, and convenient, many women have benefited from this life-changing treatment. Dr. Petropoulos talks with you about each of these issues to ensure your safety before recommending any treatments.
How ThermiVa® Works
ThermiVa is a specialized adaptation of: ThermiRF® radiofrequency skin tightening and contouring system. A similar version of the technology has been popular for years for anti-aging purposes, tightening facial skin and smoothing away wrinkles.
During a ThermiVa treatment, a specialized wand for comfort and simplicity enables our female clinician to directly apply heat to the inner and outer tissues of the female parts. By gently heating the tissue, ThermiVa encourages the building of collagen which results in increased vaginal tightness and sensation.
What to Expect after Vaginal Rejuvenation
From start to finish, a ThermiVa procedure lasts about 30 minutes, during which patients just feel a gentle warmth. There is no downtime and patients can go about their day as usual after a treatment session. All normal activity may be resumed, including sexual intercourse.
During treatment, you will feel the sensation of warmth, but at a comfortable level. The ThermiVa wand simultaneously applies heat and monitors the affected tissue to make sure it gradually reaches a therapeutic temperature that promotes collagen production. This process takes several minutes, and the wand will pass back and forth over the treatment area.
Immediately following treatment, you may experience mild swelling, and some pinkness may be visible. Occasionally, on rare occasions, there might be some slight cramping. This all abate within a day.
Many of our patients are amazed to learn just how simple and comfortable the process is – and how much of a positive effect the results have on their lives.
The increased tightness of external tissues is visible immediately after treatment, and your results continue to develop over time. In addition, ThermiVa helps patients regain feminine wellness such as clitoral sensitivity and restoration of feminine moisture. Patients with mild incontinence have fewer episodes, and some are able to stop using pads altogether after treatment.
Many patients are pleased with their results after only a single treatment. Those with mild leakage or other issues may choose a series of 3 treatments, each a month apart. The number of sessions you undergo is a decision between you and Dr. Petropoulos, who advises you based on your overall feminine health.
How long will ThermiVa results last?
The results of ThermiVa improve over the course of the treatment protocol, which is usually 3 treatment sessions. After tissue tightening, results can last up to one year. Physicians usually encourage patients to obtain a touch-up treatment annually to continually support collagen proliferation within the vaginal lining.
How does ThermiVa compare to surgical vaginal rejuvenation?
ThermiVa treatment is conducted in the office in just a few minutes. The procedure is non-surgical, no incisions or stitches, and no anesthesia. The gentleness of this approach allows patients to improve feminine wellness without downtime and without side effects.
Surgical vaginal rejuvenation is a process through which tissues in and around the vagina are trimmed using incisions and absorbable stitches. The procedures conducted to achieve tightening include vaginoplasty and labiaplasty. Many physicians perform these procedures with only local or regional anesthesia and a mild sedative. However, patients may prefer deep IV sedation that achieves a light sleep state during their procedure. The two distinct surgeries involved in vaginal rejuvenation can refine the shape of the labia and tighten the vaginal canal. However, patients need 3 to 5 days to heal before returning to work, and another several weeks to heal before engaging in sexual intercourse.
How soon after ThermiVa can I resume intimacy?
Patients treated with ThermiVa may resume normal activities immediately upon leaving the office. Unlike surgical vaginal rejuvenation, ThermiVa requires no restrictions whatsoever, including sexual abstinence. Patients may have sex the same day as their ThermiVa session and may feel their improvement right away. Results are typically at their peak about two weeks after each appointment.
Can I achieve the same results of ThermiVa with Kegel exercises?
ThermiVa and Kegel exercises may actually be quite complementary. Kegel exercises are pelvic floor contractions that improve muscle tone. The regular performance of these contractions can minimize symptoms of stress urinary incontinence and may possibly improve sexual satisfaction. However, ThermiVa delivers radio frequency into particular tissues to tighten non-muscular laxity inside and outside of the vagina. Radiofrequency also stimulates the regeneration of tissue through which vaginal lubrication improves. Kegels cannot accomplish that.
Is ThermiVa painful?
ThermiVa is a gentle, relaxing treatment during which patients may feel a warming sensation. This is not described as painful. Treatment is respectfully conducted in a private exam room. Patients may wear a medical gown or drape for discretion. Women with moderate to severe vaginal dryness may experience slight discomfort as the small probe is inserted into the vaginal canal. This sensation may not occur during subsequent sessions due to improvement in the vaginal mucosa.
