Liquid Facelift
What is a Liquid Facelift?
While you’ve enjoyed many exciting and rewarding experiences over the years, there’s no reason for your face to give away your age. Many people don’t realize that their face can lose fullness as the years pass, making facial volume loss one of the most noticeable signs of aging.
Board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Anna Petropoulos has dedicated over a decade to surgical and non-surgical facial rejuvenation and has perfected the techniques for facial volume restoration with non-invasive, natural injectable fillers. As a result, she has been named a National Educational Faculty member for these techniques using Sculptra®, Radiesse® and Juvéderm®. Patients from Boston and other areas of New England benefit from her skills in using these fillers alone or, where appropriate, as complementary treatments.
Restoring volume in certain key areas of the face can renew that youthful appearance, offering a non-surgical option to a facelift. Hence the name “Liquid Facelift” is apt for the techniques of rejuvenation by volume restoration.
Am I A Good Candidate for A Liquid Facelift?
Sculptra Aesthetic is the main component of Dr. Petropoulos’ Liquid Facelift technique which is best used to treat men and women ages 25 to 75. If you have lost your facial volume due to aging, or have deep lines and wrinkles, Sculptra and other fillers can be used to refresh your appearance. Sculptra gradually improves collagen, so results are not immediate. If immediate results are what you are looking for, Dr. Petropoulos can suggest other fillers to suit your needs.
How Aging Affects Facial Volume
Many of Dr. Petropoulos’ patients need skin rejuvenation along with facial volume enhancement to look younger. Dr. Petropoulos understands the science behind aging and she uses this knowledge to your advantage by recognizing that the:
- Distance from the lower lash line to the cheek becomes longer.
- Arch of the cheek becomes divided by a depression called the tear trough.
- Cheek loses its youthful curves as it descends to the jowls and flattens.
- Nasolabial folds that run from the nose to the outer corners of the mouth deepen and lengthen.
Through her innovative, volume restoration techniques in these areas, she helps her patients look naturally younger.
Dr. Petropoulos believes in a conservative approach to facial rejuvenation. During your consultation, she will assess your signs of facial aging and ask you to show her the areas you’d like to improve. She will explore non-surgical treatments with you and will only propose facial cosmetic surgery if truly needed.
How Is A Non-Surgical Facelift Performed With Sculptra Aesthetic?
What makes Sculptra unique as a filler is that it stimulates the body to restore its own volume with its own collagen. It is the main foundation for Dr. Petropoulos’ Liquid Facelift. This natural injectable filler is made from poly-L-lactic acid, a simple synthesized sugar which has been used by physicians for over 60 years and is perfectly safe. Sculptra is designed for use in the deeper tissues of the face to gradually replace lost volume by stimulating the body’s own collagen production. Improvements appear gradually and last up to 2 years. Patients who desire more immediate results might consider another filler like Juvéderm® Injectable Gel.
Dr. Petropoulos uses Sculptra, a unique injectable filler, to give her patients a non-surgical facelift that can soften the evidence of the years without surgery. For over 8 years she has perfected the fine nuances of Sculptra use in restoring facial volume with specialized guidance from Dr. Peter Englehard, who has treated and rejuvenated more than 3,000 patients with Sculptra.
Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation Treatments
Many patients require a blend of treatments to complete their Liquid Face Lift. Through her specialized experience and aesthetic eye, Dr. Petropoulos selects the ideal combination for each patient’s unique needs. She may incorporate other fillers like Juvéderm and Radiesse to provide immediately noticeable improvements, as well as precision injections of BOTOX® Cosmetic to help Boston area patients enhance and sustain the added volume.

Liquid Facelift Procedure
The Liquid Facelift is a quick and simple office procedure. Dr. Petropoulos injects Sculptra in a specialized pattern deep beneath the areas that have lost volume. The treatments take approximately 45 minutes to complete and are quite comfortable since Sculptra contains lidocaine.
How many liquid facelift treatments will I need?
Patients usually require a series of 3 treatments, spaced about 6 weeks apart and are instructed to massage the treated areas after the treatments. After completion of their treatments, they start to enjoy the wonderful replenishment of their volume and youthful fullness.
Are there any Risks or Side Effects Of Sculptra?
As with any procedure, side effects are possible. Some possible side effects of Sculptra injections include localized bleeding, tenderness, discomfort, redness, bruising and swelling. If you experience any of these side effects and they last longer than a few days, please contact our office.
